Cromford Tors Road Widening

Although I was born and spent my very early years in Matlock and a brief few years in Lower Kilburn, I class myself as a Cromford girl. This is where I grew up and where I lived before I left to go travelling, it is also somewhere I always returned to until my mum moved to Wirksworth in 2014.

As you can imagine living on the A6 and seeing how much it has changed in the few years I've been on the planet, I find the photos of the road widening and blasting of Cromford Tors fascinating.

Can you imagine today's traffic having to squeeze through that little gap in the cliffs. It must have been a bit of a pain for the villagers at the time, but definitely a necessity. March 1961
